Deeds are judged by intentions
Intention (niyyah) is an important matter, as it is the spirit of deeds through which deeds become valid, as the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Actions are but by intentions and each person will have but that which he intended.” Rather the place of intention is the heart. If a person utters something by mistake that goes against what is in his heart, then what counts is what he intended, not what he said.
An-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said: The Muslims are agreed upon the great importance of this hadith, the great benefits it teaches and the soundness of this report.
